Dot Matrix Printer Epson LX-300 II on Linux

I am a trainee data processing company that provides services for the city of my town. I am in the Department of Education where I work as a computer technician. One thing that I love this stage are those that have multiple computers with Ubuntu installed. Unfortunately there are many Windows XP machines there, but there are several with Ubuntu Linux. The only technical for me and there's William, another trainee who joined the company the same day that I (and we also sent the same day to the Department of Education). As I work from 8:00 to 14:00, Guilherme enters and leaves at 11:00 to 17:00, or worked together for three hours inside. This means that when we are both at work, he takes care of the machines with Ruindows and I caught them with Linux, P

Despite being a pretty easy job, learned a lot there. One of the things that we have to fix are problems with printers. Many there are network printers, which means to me and William has become the type of printer easier to configure. Of course, sometimes some printers have more rare to see, which often means an extra head ache and pain. One example is the printer Epson LX-300 II (meeting nostalgia: I had an Epson LX-300 colored there by 1994 when I had my 486). From what people told me one of the sectors, the Epson has always been a problem for all the coaches who went through there. It even seems that the former head of IT had already said that the Epson LX-300 did not work on Linux (and also told me that a 5 technicians have tried to install it on Ubuntu and could not). All this led me to also try to install the Epson. A pesquisadinha on Google and all resolved.

The problem is that there is a specific driver from Epson LX-300 for Linux. Of course this does not mean that there are no compatible drivers. Epson works perfectly with the following drivers:

  1. IBM ProPrinter II
  2. Epson 9-Pin Series
  3. Epson 24-Pin Plus Series (only one not tested)

With these drivers the printer now works perfectly. If the version of USB printer, she is automatically detected and there is only missing the driver's choice. You can also share the printer or using an Epson which is shared on another machine. Just choose one of these drivers and ready :)

I think I need hardly say that in a few minutes I could leave the printer running; D If not for the stage never could have tested an Epson LX-300 on Linux, would not know that it works with these drivers and would have nothing to post here today hehehehehe . The most important lesson drawn from this is that a pesquisadinha Google solves 99.99% of the problems. I leave here's a tip: Whenever you have questions search! For something more complicated than it sounds, you can probably resolve in a few minutes thanks to a quick search. Another cool tip is the site Viva Linux that certainly is the best and most important site in Brazil Linux. There you will find tips and articles about everything imaginable! He was one of the sites I found with the tip of the drivers for the Epson LX-300 : P

  2. Hello Fellow! See if you can help me.

I am developing a customized Linux Ubuntu 9.04 and I want to install the LX300 it.

I tried different drivers, I managed to install all of them, but print quality is very bad.

In Windows I used it with the driver or Epson Generic Text Only and always printed with great speed and great quality, things that I can not in linux.

What can be done for her to have the same performance and quality it had when I used it in windows?
